Galileo Virtual COM Port - when booting from SD

Good afternoon,

I am booting from SD card with a Yocto built OS image - is it still possible to use the virtual COM port driver when operating the device this way?  My Windows PC does not automatically load the virtual COM port driver when booted from SD.

I know there are at least two additional ways to communicate with the device over serial, but I'm trying to develop a solution for a specific application and want to avoid having others purchase the additional cables (audio jack cable, etc.)

This is the first gen Galileo.
